LoraWAN | NB-IoT
Providing Connectivity
Internet of Things (IoT) systems and devices need a communication network that can support the transmission of data from and to the field-deployed devices and sensors.
LoRaWAN and NB-IoT networks are currently the dominant LPWAN-based communication protocols globally for IoT deployments. We are providing everything including consultancy, gateways, installation, servers or choosing the right protocol or antenna.
Long Range wide area network
What Is LoRaWAN?
LoRaWAN® stands for “Long Range Wide Area Network”. It is networking protocol designed specifically for low-power wide area (LPWA) wireless networks that use LoRa® (short for Long Range, a trademark of Semtech) as their physical layer. LoRaWAN® network architecture is deployed in a star topology where the main elements are battery-operated sensor devices (the end-nodes, the “things”) transmitting to one or multiple IP connected LoRaWAN® gateways that will forward the data to the Network Server that makes the data available to run the defined IoT application.

NarrowBand IoT
What is NB-IoT?
NB-IoT is a cellular low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technology standard. It’s deployed over resource blocks (i.e., a unit of network resources) on existing cellular LTE networks or dedicated ones. NB-IoT can be the best solution for connecting people and businesses to devices that transact small data amounts. These devices expend low amounts of energy since they can spend time in sleep mode.
Its efficiencies in indoor coverage, energy expenditure and maintenance contribute to an increase in IoT-enabled devices.

LoRaWAN
How It Works?
LoRaWAN® defines and controls how a device behaves in a large network. It optimizes various radio parameters in order to reach optimal network capacity and reliability.
The main advantages are the long-range coverage (up to 50km in open areas and up to 10km in urban environments) and the extremely low power consumption (up to 10 years battery life). These two elements, together with the simple network topology (a star-of-stars topology in which gateways transmit messages between end-devices and a LoRaWAN® network server, the central element and the heart of the network) makes LoRaWAN® networks deployment really easy and basically ‘plug and play’.
Benefits
Why LPWAN?
Battery
Sensors can last up to 10 years with everyday data transmit compared to cellular connection sensors which last weeks. No wires, just small batteries.
Coverage
With LoRaWAN® gateway can cover up to 5 km in urban areas and up to 20 km in open areas. Easy for deployment of field sensors. With NB-IoT we are using cellular coverage.
Stability
Both are radio frequency networks with stable coverage and data transmission. LoRaWAN® operates on open frequency, for EU it is 868Mhz. NB-IoT operates on various frequencies in Europe, most common are Band 8 and 20.
Data Cost
Compared with 4G or 5G networks we are talking pennies.
Security
Compared to other transmission types like mobile radio, WLAN or wired, it does not offer any disadvantages in terms of security. It is secured with industrial standard AES-128.
Penetration
Concrete, steel blocks, glass, indoor, outdoor, even basements – everything is achievable for LoRaWAN or NB-IoT.
